From my Polynesian friends I learned about their culture. Most of all I learned the importance of close family
ties. In their culture they do not have nursing homes. They find it an honor to be the person their family chooses
to live with, when they no longer can live on their own.

From my Spanish friends I not only learned a language; I learned about many different cultures. I ate the traditional
food of Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and many other countries. I learned to accept people for who they
are.
Living in Southern California gave me the opportunity to experience many cultures and try different foods. For
awhile, I lived in Garden Grove (the largest congregation of Vietnamese out side of Vietnam). I also lived in Santa
Ana, an area my friends lovingly called Little Mexico. I ate everything from the boiled lining of a cows stomach and
his tongue to Indian and Caribbean food. It was a really awesome experience. One that has changed the way
I look at life and the people of the world.
